  1. A battery is any energy-storage device 
  2. allowing release of electricity on demand. 
  3. It is made up of one or more electrical cells.
  4. The introduction of rechargeable 
  5. nickel-cadmium batteries has revolutionized 
  6. portable electronic sound recording, video
  7. and laptop computers. These batteries offer
  8. a stable, short-term source of power free of
  9. noise and other electrical hazards. 
  10. Some batteries can hold their charge for up
  11. to five years, they cannot, however, be 
  12. recharged. In the last few years technology
  13. has made it possible to recharge virtually
  14. any standard "non-rechargable" battery.
